A short movie of one of the old V bombers, the Vulcan, taxing up to the Southend Airport runway, during the 2005 Southend Airshow. The Vulcan cannot fly at the moment, but this was a historical moment, as no existing Vulcan can fly, but this one took a step closer.

  • i drove past yesturday i swear its missing two engines

  • @stickman101cv They were doing some work on it last weekend, so they may have removed them then, perhaps for maintenance

  • This one won't ever fly again, or so they say; there is one that will, XH558 at Bruntingthorpe - that has heritage lottery money to get it back in the air.

  • This one can fly, but only if they get the required financial backing, which is sadly unlikely.

  • Ah, I wondered if that was the case, I am hoping to see her fly again, any idea where and when it may be as am very keen to attend the 'Maiden' flight?

  • No, they need the funds to get it airworthy at the moment. I heard on the news during the summer that another one is near flight capable as well, but can't remember that was.

  • nice vid, great jet. Lets hope XM558 will get the £150,000 to keep the programme on schedule for the 2008 season.

  • flying to day around bourne lincs. hope some ones going to post the first take off. great aircraft.

  • xh558 will fly soon hopfully but wheather conditions r causin he 2 delay her flights

  • God this is an amazing aircaft, and those Olympus engines after 00:07, hair on back of neck stuff.

  • I can remember going to air shows when i was young with my dad and seeing a vulcan a few times still my favorite aircraft. You cant even get close to what its like when i takes off in these videos no matter how good the recording or how good your speakers are. you just have to be there coz you can feel it aswell as hear it. but keep posting them though!!

  • If everything goes to plan she'll be back up where she belongs in 2007!

  • Theonly thing you could hope I think is that when XH558 is retired finally some of the parts are put on this, and then it returns to the air - otherwise it's unlikely, the amount of money it's already taken is unbelievable.
