@klapperklaw its not really their fault though. human minds are parasitically hung up on the idea of identification, formation and the need to organize things into compartments. things can't simply "be". also, record labels and press feel the need to use buzzwords for advertisement. it will always be like this.

@klapperklaw I agree, fully. I'm not sure what happened... was it the musical style that lead to later labels or was it fashion? Because for me, it's just 80s... lol.

I saw them in Noorderligt in Tilburg. Now that seems to be light years back. But I thought I saw Echo, Depeche Mode and The Cure at the same time. I liked their drums, I liked their synths and I liked the nostalgic sound. And their hair styles. Of course. But why did they get rid of `Clan of` and change their name in Xymox?

A lot of these "gothic" bands weren't considered gothic at the time and had never intended on being labeled as such to begin with. They were just making music. It's sad that in the club scene, a diner, and now everywhere on the internet, the discussions revolve around what genre these groups fit under rather than any musical quality they possessed. It will never change I suppose, and it's been 20+ years for a lot of fans too...
