In case you all didn't get the joke,T-rex has been proven to be a very intelligent animal(smartest large theropod of all time) with a massive brain capable of complex thought with a massive cerebral and very strategic.( 0:10 as he even portrays as in this movie, see the irony joke, that's the POINT)

People like Jack puts so much emphases on smell that they tend to ignores the fact it had the greatest vision of any large theropod(high depth binocular vision) and extremely keen hearing.
