PS2 Underrated Gem: Spartan: Total Warrior

This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the PS2.

This game will definitely appeal to the Dynasty Warriors crowd. Playing like a more objective based Dynasty Warriors, Spartan Total Warrior was definitely overlooked by the general gaming public. Not to mention that it's overshadowed by a certain other Spartan on the PS2 (I think you know the guy I'm talking about).

My complaints are that the larger focus on mission objectives mean that you'll constantly be having to retry certain parts of the game over and over again. If you're not into repetition, then this may not be the game for you.

Aside from that it's got everything that makes the DW series so fun. mindless mayhem, and responsive controls.

If you're into epic beat 'em ups, then give this Spartan a chance.

Spartan: Total Warrior is also available on the Gamecube and Xbox.

this game was teeeeeerrible, in my opinion.

I picked it up because I thought it was like God of War...

unfortunately, God of War is much better.

@degree7 The two aren't even comparable. Don't you at least look at the back of a game before you purchase it? So did you think it was "terrible" because you didn't like it, or because it wasn't GoW? If it was like GoW, you probably would have hated it for being a clone as well.

The level design, graphics, and overall gameplay just didn't have much going for it. The only thing that saved it were the sheer number of enemies on screen and the decent combat system. Ah well.

Wasn't really expecting a carbon copy of GoW either, but I should have known most games can't stand up to the greatest thing ever to come out for the ps2.

@degree7 The greatest thing to hit the PS2? Please. I like GoW 1 and 2, but they are far from the best PS2 games out there. The only parts that really appealed to me were the adventure elements in the game. otherwise they would have been just another me-too DMC style game. Quick Time events still suck ass though. Worst design choice ever.
