original song tribute to the Last Fighting Tommy, Harry Patch who died aged 111 on the 25/7/09. I used a direct Harry quote "War is just organised murder", the rest of the words and tune are my own reflection of Harry's anti war sentiments. The final verse points up the fact that he was never honoured in his own country although the political class see fit to honour celebrity chefs, badly behaved sportsmen and failed bankers. The French to their great credit awarded Harry the Legion d'Honneur.
Dedicated to my Grandfather who fought at Gallipoli and the Somme but never spoke about it.

  • shame so few have seen this... :(

  • @yenbadcito i agree. It was going well - then Radiohead (not their fault - but it is google's) swamped the internet with their fairly tuneless but well meant tribute. This knocked my Harry Patch tune so far down the google/youtube rankings that it never got found again 'til recently.

  • Okay well I personally think this is miles better than Radiohead's tribute. :)

I doubt it's the band's fault. It's just the luck of the draw in terms of how the search on youtube comes out. Since Radiohead's song got about 150k views, that should have increased your chances of those finding this video.. since it would bring attention to Harry Patch tributes. You should probably add 'tribute' and a few synonyms to your tags.

  • Are you going to re-record this with your new mic?

  • I really like this, a song people won't forget and will keep on singing and you can hear all the words...

  • Little Cohen? Waiting for your next!

  • Well done! It's really important that people like Harry are able to live on through songs such as yours. Keep up the good work.

  • Very nice. Keep 'em coming.
