Take a closer look at the fictional story of the Trojan War written by Homer. Was there any truth in the myth? Is it possible that there was an ancient war fought for love? Did Helen really have a face that launched a thousand ships?

    Woe to the World!

It's to late to say Whoa to the horse, I've just had orders to bring it into the city.

  • i played helen in a play... jeez that was fun

  • Such a wonderful lovestory I've known.

  • The name of Turkey is based on Turcus/Turcia names which also refers to Trojans. Many people dont know this but the name Turkey and Turkish also refers to Trojans and the Trojan king Bardanes Turcus.Other name of Byzantine empire (anatolian part) was 'Turcia/Turcus'.

  • @slatibaadfast tribes or not, they are Greek against Troy, 'nuff said.

  • @misspellicula that's the point. there were Greek TRIBES. a motley collection of peoples that were not a nation. Especially a nation powerful enough to go to war under one leader. besides, sit with a map of the Mediterranean and copies of the Iliad and Odyssey and map out the routes, distances and travel times mentioned. it is impossible to successfully do so in the Mediterranean. unfortunately space does not permit a more in depth explanation.

  • the hettites mention that there was a conflict between the Myceneans ad the Troyans at around the same time. TRoy was a rich and influencial city and the Greeks wanted a piece of it!

The Troyan war was/is a historical fact. but whether Achilles chased Hector around 3 times or not, let's leave that one for the legends! :)

  • @slatibaadfast @slatibaadfast hi! I don't know why you keep saying that the Greeks weren't around at the time. the Myceneans were Greeks! there were many Greek tribes, like the Dorians, Ionians and Aeolians, thi latest being the guys who established the Mycenean culture on the Pelloponesos around 1600BC. They spoke Greek!

besides it is not only Homer from who we know of the Troyan war- you can find mentions in the Hettite tablets also- the city of hettite Wilusa as being the same as Troy.
