My uncle played in this band. He was the drummer. He's the guy in the blue sitting down with drumsticks in his hands

Chuck Brown was the absolutely essential missing link between James Brown's pioneering funk in the early 1970's and early hip hop and rap music in the 1980's. I remember hearing this when I was a kid in Rochester, NY (yes, his music sometimes reached that far north). I especially marveled at how he could cram a message that potent in such a quick refrain. Someday real soon (I hope) historians of Black popular music will understand just how important he really is.

Most knew him as the Godfather of Go-Go. I just knew him as a stone-cold brotha who could JAM. One of my fav albums EVER, you know, the one where you own the vinyl, the 45"s AND the CD reissue? ♥ #RIPChuckBrown ♥
