As a life-long Habs fan, I had always hated Phil Esposito -- until this series, and especially this interview. More than anybody, even more than the amazing Paul Henderson, Espo won that '72 series for us with his grit, his skill and his heart. Phil, if you're reading this, you were one of the best! A leader in every way.

Phil as one of my all time favorite players and I remember this interview. The CCCP squad proved to be a whole lot more of a hockey team than the NHL all star squad expected. You saw the NHL team scrambling and giving it their all versus a superior condition squad with a wealth of talent. When they won game 8 they celebrated like they were kids once again winning a local champioship.

The better team won this and that was Canada, in Canada this series was basically considered a war, the ice was the battle field, the pucks were the ammuniton, nets were the target and the heart of the Canadians was our fuel.

@DmitryBaranov87 Where was Ovechkin that time? was he too scared? The stats dont lie, Canada has the better international record. And the womens team? Russia didnt even make playoffs! BTW Canadians are not french, I dont speak french, and its not even an official language for Canada, only in New Brunswick. Just face it, hockey now is Canada, and the USA. Since you seem to love the super series, the 2007 one, ya Canada won 7 out of 8, and the other game was a draw, so the commies didnt even get one win. Also, it was a Canadaian who brought hockey to Russia, so you cant even do that yourself. At the olympics, Canada has 11 golds, and the commies only have 7, yes yes, and this past one, the commies didnt even medal!!! Finland fucking beat them,,,FINLAND!!!! Canada beat Russia 7-3
