On April 21, 2010 at around 10:45 p.m., a neighbor noticed two suspects exit a white van and enter a home that is under construction. The neighbor notified HCSO of the activity and kept a close eye on the suspects until deputies arrived. He observed the suspects exit the back of the home and enter the home next door which was also under construction. The suspects went back and forth between the homes until deputies arrived. When the suspects saw HCSO vehicles, they fled towards the pond behind the homes. Aviation was able to locate the suspects in the pond and although deputies gave verbal commands for the suspects to surrender, they kept swimming westbound across the pond. The Aviation Unit hovered over the pond forcing the suspects back to shore. At that point, deputies were able to arrest both suspects. Both Taylor and Smith stated that they were fishing in the pond and ran because they were afraid to be caught in a construction zone. However, deputies found no fishing gear and instead located bolt cutters and cut wires at each site.
