24/7 doesn't allow roots to stretch out for the water. When the sprayer turns off, you see the most root growth. I don't know the scientific words to explain it but thats the gist of it.

As long as there is plenty of oxygen in the res/container, why not leave the sprayers on 24/7? Energy?

I was running into problems with root rot. It's an 18 gallon tote with about 5 gallons of nutes but after I read up somewhere to try running the sprayers 30 seconds on and 5 seconds off, it made a HUGE difference in growth. I had also tried putting an ultrasonic fogger in with the nutes running 24/7 but ran into heating problems and it started cooking the roots.
