California State University (CSU) sponsored their fourth annual Super Saturday. This multi-cultural event featured all 23 CSU campuses, live entertainment, information sessions on the college application, course requirements, and admissions process, housing, course requirements and financial aid.
Keynote speakers were Pastor Clyde W. Oden of Bryant Temple AME Church and California State University, Dominguez Hills' President Mildred GarcĂa. CSU's intentions were to build community partnerships with church leaders and congregations by reaching traditionally underrepresented communities and empowering families families with knowledge of how to make college a reality. According to Pastor Oden, "Super Saturday signals the willingness of the university to open its doors to our communities. This event allows young people to set foot on a university campus and find out all about the wonderful things available to them, so they can say yes we can make this happen'."
Included were various workshops on admission requirements, family/parent involvement and paying for college, There was also live entertainment and raffles.
