You know the song pop lock it drop it? That's was the beginning of everyone mixing the terms. Commercialized is the stuff you seen in music videos, and now people call it Pop Lock and it's sad.
Anyway I'm not expecting anything then for people to know two different styles instead of mixing them together.
And it's not fair that poplock makes people just think about popping, locking is an amazing dance and people are simply forgetting it because it wasn't a money maker for the stupid rap stars.
I never said it was a style tho... And how do you figure its a commercialized term? I would say the commercialization is people identifying poppers as bboys or those type of generalizations.. poplocking is more of an oldschool term used by the community I would say, and even some dancers.... My point is, if you say poplock people will do all styles that fall under popping... u cant expect everyone to be up to date on terminology..
Pop Lock is not a style, it's a commercialized term. Popping and Locking are two completely different styles, thus their names should be mixed. Just like you wouldn't mix up bboying with popping, you shouldn't mix up locking with popping. This is about how you do it, this is how you recognize it, and because people have recognized these dances incorrectly they have fallen underground, because people only know the commercialized dance, not the true art.
what do you mean? If you ask people to pop lock they will most likely do waves and robotic movements, some locking moves, and maybe some hitting.. all styles that fall under the more technical term popping... lets say for instance if you had asked michael jackson to do a "back slide" but he only knew it as a moonwalk... would that make him any less good at it? It doesnt matter what you call it, its how you do it...
