Judy at 15 singing a song from an MGM Marx Brothers film with Maureen O'Sullivan & Alan Jones called "A Day at the Races." (1937) In the film, the song was sung by the underrated Ivie Anderson, who sang with Duke Ellington & his Orchestra in the 1930s.
This is the B side to Judy's "Everybody Sing," and was recorded Monday August 30, 1937, backed by Georgie Stoll & his Orchestra.
Written by Gus Khan, Walter Jurmann, and Bronislaw Kaper.
The Garland record in parts followed the Anderson version almost note for note, including the scat! But Roger Edens did add special material for Garland and encouraged her to be a jazz singer here and she surely was.

Ivy Andersson sang it in the Marx brothers film "A day at the races" (The Swing) long before Judy sang it. Ivy was greater in my mind. Not that Judy was bad but "all Gods Chillun" suited Ivy better.

for those who are listening there is a pungent political comment in the last few bars.

lol...now that you mention it, yeah, i did hear that a few times...it's probably a result of diction classes or something to the like

This song would put anyone in a great mood, and Judy's rendition is unforgettable. By the way, did anyone else notice that she went from pronouncing the word "chillun" to pronouncing it "children"?
