Naomi Klein and Christian Parenti on How Beijing Olympics Highlight Globalization of Police State, Inequality

The equipment and integrated security systems used to detain Olympic protesters will remain long after the Olympics, to be used, many fear, on China's own population. And some of the biggest beneficiaries of this surveillance boom are US hedge funds and corporations, including Cisco, General Electric and Google. We speak to journalists Naomi Klein and Christian Parenti, both of whom have recently reported from China. [includes rush transcript]

  • @maomao667 bad as I can think it is to eat cats & dogs, that was not what I was complaining about. Since when are those THREATENED animals?!

  • @USAneedsaChange

Cats and dogs are only eaten in 2 or 3 provinces in China because of the different customs in different areas.

  • @maomao667 and, btw, China should clamp down harder on the illegal markets that trade with threatened animals, like in Ghuangzhou. It can mean that many species go extinct like turtles and tigers etc.. and china should not support bad regimes around the world just to get oil/energy. (same for USA though)

  • @maomao667 They should let the Chinese be free to communicate with the rest of the world, for example via YT and FB. Where are you since you can use YT? They should allow protests. If young kids want to have a Jasmine-revolution, then maybe the regime should listen to their complaints. They should also let Tibet form their own state if that is the correct thing to do(I don't know). We understand violations of human rights when we see it. You deny what is apparent to everyone.

  • @USAneedsaChange

So, tell me what exactly is China's way to do toward their citizens? And What the fuck do you know about China? The reason why I call you idiot is because you are as dumb as most yanks and westerners. Criticizing other countries without understanding their cultures is the only thing you can do ! Plus, I named myself Mao is because I love cats. In Chinese, cat is pronounced as "mao". Okay? So, don't take it as "Mao ze dong".

  • @maomao667 No extreme freedom in the World?? Us in the West are very free. You honestly think Naomi Klein does not know the difference between the West and China?? and why know that before one criticize any way? Thought you loved the Chinese? I have learned some about China's history, it is very long. Doesn't explain why China should act the way they do toward their citizens in 2011...

  • @maomao667 Don't call me an idiot, you're the idiot for attacking Democracy now that shows how oppressive China is! I have seen other news as well, and I'm sure you know about how oppressive they are. I'm not American and I chat quite often with Chinese so I know some. You say that it's still quite limited so what are you complaining about?! And why is your name Mao... You know how many died under his rule? Chinese don't have YT, Google or FaceBook. Sup with that?

  • @USAneedsaChange

There is no extreme freedom in the world, otherwise it will bring chaos. I think the westerners should know the difference between the west and China first before they criticize China's freedom and human rights. You want to know why China is a one-party state? Go learn the Chinese history first.

  • @USAneedsaChange

I am not working for the Chinese government. You idiot. I bet over 80% percent Americans still think China is in dark age, just like in the maoist era. However, in fact, China is no longer a Shitty country like DPRK. The sitiuation of freedom is 100 times better than 30 years before in China, but it is still quite limited.

  • @maomao667 Are you working for the Chinese government? Because, unlike when that is ridiculous thing when conspiracy theorists say that to people who debunk them, it is very likely when it comes to China... And this video just shows how poor China is in letting its people be truly free. Many are poor also. Lots of pollution as well. but China seems like a nice country still, DESPITE its government!
