This video shows how to train your dog to settle (lay down at your feet) whenever you have her on leash and are ignoring her. Great for cafes and when you stop to chat to someone on a walk, etc.

Using clicker training and reward training you never need to punish or nag your dog. And you will have a dog that not only WANTS to do what you want them to do, but does it without you even asking!

The basis of this wonderful training method was taught to me by my dear friend Kyle.

Splash! the border collie is 13 weeks old in this video

  • oh my gosh!

ive been watching like a lot of your vids and im so excited to start training my puppy Chino!!!

    thumbs up!

  • Cool! Thats great motivation for me to make more videos. :)

  • 5 STARS as usual for another pawsome video:). Great job Splash! and I am really glad you showed the "settle" in real life, distracting situations. What was Kiko doing that was so interesting off screen?

    Woofs & Wiggles,

    Ashley & Kaine

  • Hehe, Kiko finds laying in the sun on the couch more reinforcing, rather than hanging around during her owner chit chatting to a camera. :) If only I could bottle sunlight! Ha! did you make up the word 'pawsome'? That made me laugh!

  • but my ger loves to chew her leash. what should i do.

btw, love ur vids. Able to learn lots from you. Keep more coming up!

  • There is a clicker game to stop that, write me and Ill tell you (long description).

What you can do is use management- so get a chain leash for training the settle, or put some wintergreen oil (it tastes like peppermint and dogs don't really like it)on it so you wont have to worry about the dog biting the leash while you ignore them. Never put bad tasting stuff in their mouth on perpous, but if the leash smells and is not so fun to grab then they will learn on their own not to mouth it.
