I'M GLAD YOU ASKED THIS! 1. The 3rd hand has support on only one side, so you must have a "finger" down on a string on the other side of the neck to keep it from collapsing onto the fingerboard. Consequently to change tunings, you must take it off and re-strap it onto the neck backward 1/2 the time to get another tuning at the same fret. The SpiderCapo allows you to use any tuning -or no tuning- at a given fret without changing position.

No. Not the same thing. The "3rd Hand" is a semi-functional version of the "SpiderCapo".

hi i was just wondeirng, im doing some andy mckee stuff, and that requires lower lowerE,A,D,G to be covered. the spider can acomplish this (most capos bend the strings, and cut capos often miss the lower E). the only problem is, if during the song i wanted to play the B and 1st E, would you know how i can do this? it looks like the spider covers the whole fret...your help would be fantistic, thank you :)regards

@hideo0gawa Hi- Please correct me if I mis-understand.

If you want access to the strings that are NOT capoed AT the fret that the SpiderCapo is placed at, do this: REMOVE 2 FINGERS from the SpiderCapo. This way you can get YOUR finger under the shaft to depress the notes directly under the SpiderCapo.

If your question is simply if you will be able to sound the open strings of those not depressed by the Spider: the answer is yes.

i've been using one of these capos since the 80's - but at last i've been able to find one that looks a sturdy construction

I think it would be pretty cool if there was away to mix the spider with the glider capo. That way not only would you have the option of changing the tuning, but the entire fret as well. Just a dumb idea maybe lol.

can you get open e and a tunings with this, and whats the difference between this and the 3rd hand one, they seem to do the same thing

@stinkylungs Just got one today, the narrowest setting possible I can do is about 3.8cm/1.5inches, you could remove some of the fingers by just unscrewing the tightening screw and slide them off, so the question would rather be if it would be able to clamp on the neck. it MIGHT be possible to modify it for a uke if its too wide for the neck, but I'm not going to try this as I'm using it for my guitars only :)

I FINALLY managed to get hold of one of these in Norway, and it's friggin awesome! I normally detune the guitar a lot (and still will) but this is a different thing altogether. It was pricey here, but worth it!

At first I thought the fingers seem flimsey and was doubtful that it would do the trick for my acoustic with .012 and fairly high tension, but it works fantastic.

will you please help me find the difference between 2 capos . . . . on antoine dufours sheet music . . . . in the song memories of the future he has a 3rd hand capo on strings 2,3,4,5 ........... and in En t'attendant he has a spider capo on strings 2,3,4 ..............................­........... is a 3rd hand capo and a spider capo the same thing ????
