  • No...its a fullbridge of HGT1N40N60A4D

mini blocks...i only have four spare, so when they blow, i'll have to get different ones as these IGBT's are hard to get now.

Yes i think i had the OCD set to about 600amps at the time, thats not nearly as impressive as your little coil outputing some 30+ inch sparks at only less than 400 amp primary current!

Yes...my operating frequency is about 200Khz

  • I think the spark length was about 38 inches. The secondary coil is 12x4 inches.

I had just finished making this coil on the previous night just in time for the Nottingham Teslathon, so i never really experimented with tuning.

I awaited for Richie Burnet to view it working as he has requested, only to find

that after about 30 seconds it blew half my bridge!...doh!.....that must have impressed him!...lol

  • Cheers Phil,

I have now demolished this base unit and replaced it with Steve Wards latest

universal driver/controller, everything else remains the same.

i'm nearley finished and just about to fire it up for tests.

  • So this coil is only a half bridge? I guess you must be using ISOTOPs. I use the IXYS 60N60s in a full bridge on my coil.

38" is quite impressive. I suppose you had the OCD set for 600A? I have yet to break 390A on my coil.

What operating frequency are you running at? ~170kHz? On my coil I have the coil tuned for about 135kHz.

  • Excellent! I use Steve's latest driver too. I'm about to tear down my enclosure and replace it with a nice black acrylic one :) By the way, now long are the sparks in this photo? Looks like at least 30+ inches.

  • Awesome performance!
