ALBANY — The community group known as ARISE is sponsoring a forum designed to help poor and minority residents of the Capital Region grab a piece of the area's growth.
The "New Opportunities Forum for Tech Valley" is scheduled for Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Albany.

The event will include speeches from officials such as U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko and Steve Groseclose, director of environmental health and safety for GlobalFoundries Inc.

And it will also include four panel-group discussions on topics such as regional transportation and sustainability, and stimulus funding for green jobs.

ARISE — which stands for A Regional Initiative Supporting Empowerment — said a central question of the conference is one that has long been its primary concern: How can Tech Valley come to include minorities, the disadvantaged and poor neighborhoods in a more unified regional plan for growth?

ARISE plans to circulate a summary of information from the forum, including contact information for key leaders.
