I actually spend a lot of my SSBB online time in Spectator Mode. I like to watch these things as much as I like to play them, and anyone who has my Friend Code and checked my status when I'm online will probably realize I spend a lot of time on Spectator. I might as well show some of the highlights I've watched.
Spectator Mode shows you two big things about this game: It allows me to figure out some strategies, such as in Match #1's Sudden Death, and for those of you who dont have the game yet, you can also see how the game is supposed to play, without any trace of lag. That's because Spectator Mode is not a live feed (no one at Nintendo ever said it was), but rather, a set of instructions given to the Wii telling it exactly what to display, when, and where.
Also, I bet entirely on first hunches. I must have a bit of a sixth sense or something, since it often works for me.
Match #1
Marth, King Dedede, Pikachu, Link
Port Town Aero Dive
The Sudden Death that occurs at the end gave me an idea: One great way to get by as Sudden Death as Link is to pull people in with the Gale Boomerang. Often, people go on the defensive in Sudden Death and keep a safe distance away. The Gale Boomerang prevents that and allows Link to deliver a strong close-up attack. Spectator Mode also allows me to admire the scenery of the place, something I can't do when I'm concentrating on fighting.
Match #2
Samus, Lucas, Marth, R.O.B.
Smashville
(Some Robotic Operating Buddy he is...What kind of "buddy" attacks everything that moves?) Half the reason I play the Smashville stage is to see the little guys standing behind the fence watching the fight along with me. Say, how do those guys get up there anyway? I don't see a ladder or anything. (Is that Blanca on the right? Looks like her mouth is taped up.)
Match #3
Meta Knight, Zero Suit Samus, Pikachu, (regular) Samus
Final Destination
Lots of Final Destination matches. I saw five of them in a row, and I've picked out the one I like the most. That's because in this one, we have two Samuses (Sami?) who're just messing around, and I didn't bet on them! Seriously, nearly all the time someone chooses to mess around or simply not play, I bet on them by mistake.
Match #4
Luigi and Meta Knight, Diddy Kong and Kirby
Onett
Here's a team match for you. I just realized I haven't played any team battles online, so here's how they go. You don't see too much of Diddy Kong either. I hadn't seen the Devil show up in a stage without holes until now, and Onett looks pretty interesting when he messes with its boundary lines .
YOU CAN WATCH RANDOM PEOPLE PLAY ONLINE AND EVEN BET ON THEM?!Man I can not wait to get this game....

I go completely on hunches. Skill and proficiency determines matches far more than selection of characters do, so you never really can tell who will win.
Ike is often a safe bet though.
