The idiot aint me- go look in the mirror. I just spewed coffee all over my puter screen-LMAO! You are correct-reputable breeders DONT sell puppies on craigslist and they do only breed once a year, IF that. However, people dont always view themselves realistically, do they.... Thats a really bad habit many humans possess. Go to the dictionary and look up the word "satire". Get educated and get real! Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

>They don't even realize that people cannot sell dogs on Craigslist<
Craiglist does not allow the sale of dogs or pups, either, but that doesnt stop them from being posted or those looking to *rehome* them from asking more than $150. The posts arent removed unless they are flagged. Do you really think Craigslist peruses every ad placed upon their site? They wouldnt have enough hours in the day!

The trouble with eradicating responsible breeders is that only the irresponsible ones will be left. A pool of responsible breeders that produces a limited number of health tested puppies, and provides support and guidance for the purchasers of those puppies, so that those animals grow to be the best animals that they can be is absolutely essential to the long term success of companion dogs. It should be noted that the real responsible breeders also actively participate in rescue for their breeds

There are no responsible breeders. As long as shelter animals die (over 25 % are 'purebred') no one should be breeding animals for sale. Millions of animals are loosing their lives every year due to over breeding. Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die.

I can understand a passion for a breed - we have several PB's in our family - Goldens and Dobes, also a lot of fine mixes - but I do not think one should breed for money. I do respect a gentleman who occasionally breeds his Clumber Spaniels and has shown at Westminster among other places - but on many weekends he uses his fancy dog transport van to do volunteer transporting of dogs - all kinds - from kill shelters to rescues - which is what I also do.

@theophano Of course they wind up there due to useless incompetent people, no denying that, and many of them are perfectly stable dogs, but if someone wants a dog from health and temperament tested, titled, quality parents that can produce a puppy like that getting the best start in life then that's more than fine. Responsible breeders aren't the reason shelters are full - and certainly encouraging responsible breeders of quality purebreds is a good thing.
-
There is often nothing wrong with shelter dogs - they wind up there due to the stupidity and ignorance of the people who dumped them there.
-
@theophano Yeah, about that. I'm all for breed rescue (and certainly my breed club does its part and gets out of shelters every one and gets them homes) but in reality, as great as shelters are, sometimes it's nice to have a puppy from the best possible start in life from quality, health and temperament tested parents. I encourage responsible breeding (breeders take back/rehome any dog that needs a new home). Blame pet shops and BYBs for the amount of shelter dogs.

@peekabooicu1 Hehe, yeah, I think I figured that after my rant - though it's good to explain anyway right? :) ... I hope. Some have this idea that if they breed purebreds they *must* be responsible - then all these damn new "designer" breeders think they're the responsible ones because they're breeding "healthy hybrids" - when they bring irresponsible breeding to a whole new level. Wish people knew and researched this before they went and bought the puppy...
-
@SarahFish08 there are lots of pure bred dogs in shelters if that is what you want - there are also breed rescues - please do not encourage breeding - millions of healthy dogs are killed in shelters every year

I showed pugs and found how horribly many show breeders treated their dogs. I quit. They were put in crates an left there. They just collect them in crates. And don't tell me that all show breeders are reputable. They don't breed the best, they breed for look. I believed all of that stuff about show dogs until I showed. Seven Champions in 3 years - I don't know why it took so long for me to get out given what I saw. I think I couldn't really believe it at first.
9. Karma? If responsible breeders get karma it's all the good stuff, nothing more. They are passionate about their breed, love their dogs and do it all to promote that breed and the further breeding of the best, healthiest dogs of that breed. That's admirable and to work hard in life to give everything to their dogs and breed - amazing. This video is ridiculous, completely untrue, and I'm still proud to own a dog from a reputable breeder and to know his breeder and what she does.

Duuuuuuh, Sarah- this is a satire!!! LOL! There are many who claim to be * reputable*, yet act in the manner of the video. They talk the talk, but have no clue about walking the walk....

Well done. I have to admit I've had this conversation with people. Recently even. What people don't realize when they're told to go find a reputable breeder is that a breed club is simply a trade association with a vested interest in business as usual.
