In 1970 Billy Thorpe walked into the Thumping Tum in Melbourne to see this famous female blues singer that everyone was raving about. It was Wendy Saddington and she was the lead singer of Beaten Tracks. That particular night a bond was formed between Thorpe, Saddington and her keyboard player Warren "The Pig" Morgan. This was not only the beginning of Saddington's career, but the beginning of the Sunbury Aztecs. Saddington's one and only single "Looking Through A Window" was released in September 1971and went to #22.

  • Been waiting a while for this- thanks for posting MrPurser. Wendy went through many phases including unfortunately the self destructive one endemic in performance artists.Pity she didn't record more since this single alone places her on a unique pedestal. Saw Wendy live a few times with Jeff St John and other bands-awesome voice which resonates with passion & which I prefer to Janis J Go Wendy !

  • Wendy, you are the queen of the blues. An astonishing voice.

  • australias answer to janis joplin

  • Exceptionally rich voice .

    Beautiful Ballad.

    Incredible.

  • Thanks for posting this....one of Australia's greatest women singers...I hope that she one day get the recognition she so richly deserves.....

  • What a great piece of Aussie music history - hauntingly beautiful and sung with so much emotion. As they say, don't make em like that anymore! Thanks to my Mum and Dad for having me in 1948 and allowing me to grow up through the best times in music.

  • @winifredatwell Like you, I only have the version from 20 FABULOUS HITS, which at $3.99 was the most economical way to buy music back in 1970.

  • @MalThorgan ....agreed......from 1.20 Wendy just builds an intensity that has an ethereal quality, & the strings add the perfect emotional accompaniment....& while the production gets a bit over the top by the end, this song is a classic example of the late 60's early 70's Australian scene with 6 minute songs & passionate singing from a passionate soul.

Wendy refused to suck up to the "music industry"....a bit too honest for her own good......as the GTK interview shows...respect 2 her !

  • This song takes off into the stratosphere at 3:05.
