Trams (trains that run on tracks on roads) operated in Calcutta (Kolkata) by the Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC).

All current trams consist of 2 coaches mounted on 3 bogies, each bogie having 2 axles and 4 wheels. They run on Standard Gauge tracks and draw power from overhead wires.

Railway transportation on Calcutta's roads dates back to 1873, although it has undergone several changes in gauge and has seen traction power derived from horses, coal-steam and electricity.
