it is the definition of unequal protection under the law...you are giving certain rights to certain citizens (right to visitation, right to collect benefits, especially government benefits, of spouse, etc) and denying them to others.

@DurhamDF How is it obviously not equal protection under the law?

The reason you can't marry a minor has little to do with marriage law...First of all, typically a minor can't sign a contract without parental permission. Then you have the question of does this kid have the mental capacity to sign a contract like this even with parental permission. Then there of course are the statutory rape/child molestation etc charges.. A gay man being withheld benefits and hospital visitation rights if his husband dies is obviously not equal protection under the law ...

And how should that be enforced?

In one comment you said marriage shouldn't be regulated. In the next comment you said "of course everything has to be between adults". So do you believe in regulating marriage or not?

No I don't because it is a right. And it is understood that marriage is between two adults and that's what basically the gay community is asking for, no body has said we want marriage to be between an adult and a minor, or an adult and a relative, etc. Those are childish thoughts from people who obviously oppose.

Of course everything has to be between adults. Your comment is just a show of your childish way of thinking.
