Noisy Hayward pool pump. What is it, bearing or impellar, or seal, or debris.. @ReneeClem Hi I repaired the diffuser. It is this plastic disc like thing that goes in front of the impellar, I was able to pick up the part for like 5 dollars. I think what had happened was that I had a crack in my filter basket, which allowed debris (probably old tile/mortar) to get past the basket and into the impellar area. A groove was worn out of the diffuser, kind of circular close to the impellar. So the impellar was probably ejecting the debris into the diffuser, which was causing the rattling noise. I want to add that taking apart the pump was very easy, the motor slides right out of the filter housing. There is this very large oring that made it very hard to put back together though due to friction. I bought plumber's grease(silicone) and the motor slid right back into the housing like butter. hope this helps

  • I fixed it , the thing in front of the impellar went bad. I cant remember the name of it right now, .. Got a groove in it like it wore away. The part i found hardest when fixing the pump was not having plumbers grease. When I pulled the motor it was about impossible to get it back in without it. it was like a 4 dollar part that fixed it

  • @tammys1999 turn the pump off at power, remove filter basket from pump and feel inside the hole for anything caught in the impeller (like a pebble) that may have gotten past the basket.. It should be free from forein things, it shouldnt feel wobbly, and you should be able to spin it with your fingers. another thing to check is the motor cover on the end of the pump (the other end) as they can sometimes be rubbing on the fan blades inside. If it all seems ok then your bearings are likely worn.

  • ButterNuttsAA our pool pump has started making a noise so loud I know it is bothering our neighbors. My husband told me to turn it off for a couple of hours the turn it back on so the water can circulate. We need help!! We have a 3' - 12' inground swimming pool that our friends & family can not do without! Please HELP!!

  • Noice by plastic . look at the impeller maybe touching the plastic filter. If not, replace the bearings.

  • It was probably the diffuser

  • Sounds like Cavitation to me.

  • My pump is making the exact noise. What part did you repair?

    Thanks

  • I would say impeller. I have a bad bearing on mine and it sounds much different.

  • What happens when you open all the valves in front of the pump
