Lasalle to Denver on July 16, 2009
Thursdays run in preperation for the 101st Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo Train
The trips, which began in 1908 with fewer than 100 friends of the paper's owners, went public in 1992 to help celebrate the newspaper's centennial. Intended as a one-time event, the summer excursion proved so popular that it has become an annual event.

Riders will enjoy a continental breakfast, attend the big Frontier Days parade through downtown Cheyenne, a catered barbecue and the "Daddy of 'em All" rodeo, then enjoy a light supper on the train ride back to Denver. Chartered buses will carry attendees to and from the rodeo grounds.

All-inclusive tickets are $250 for Premier seating and $350 for Dome.

Although this marks the 100th anniversary of the Post's train, it is not the 100th running because there were time outs for the death of the paper's co-founder, Harry Tammen, in 1924 and there were no trains during World War II. Publisher and editor Palmer Hoyt revived the trips in 1947, and they continued to operate until rising costs and lack of passenger equipment brought them to an end in 1970.

The special train leaves Denver Union Station at 7 a.m. and is expected to return by 8:30 p.m. More information is available online at cfdtrain.com
