"Your" = Possesive; something is yours
"You're" = "You"+"Are"; something that describes you
"Yore" = A description of time, specifically of ancient history

"Looser" = Descriptive; something that is less tight than something else
"Loser" = Also descriptive; someone who is not WINNING!

Get 'em right, ya jerkwads! Sheesh!

  • I've worked as a writer and my wife is an editor. You would not believe how often professional writers mess up "then" and "than," as in "They have more money then me." Ugh.

  • @AfraidtoFly Sounds like slavery: "They have more money...then, me!"

    *meep* ;)

  • Discuss: their, there, they're...

  • @Devilock07 Those are on my list of things to talk about, yes.

  • Please don't jump the shark.

  • @Ajindo76 Ayyy...whaddaya think I'm Fonzie ovuh here? ;)

  • My mum's pet hate is "invite" used as a noun. Every time she hears it she says "It's an invitation! Invite is a verb!".

  • @BionicDance

    Duh! That's "than me" moron.

  • @GodPatrol See? It never ends! :-)

  • @AfraidtoFly Shouldn't that be, "...then I"? ;-)

  • i kan spel ded gud an vat but donut mined abot vat soart off fing ven agen id duz elp iff u no grama

  • your a looser! j/k !! hehehhe

  • I've read a few histories of the English language(e,g by Bill Bryson & Melvyn Bragg to name 2) and what's fascinating is that the mistakes tend to win the day & if enough people say or write the 'incorrect' form it becomes the norm over time.'

'Your' for 'you are' is so prevalent in the internet age I'm guessing it'll be the dominant form in a 100 yrs.Glad I'll be dead then!

  • @vfIskullangel I admit I've used 'UR' instead of 'Your'-but only on the internet where there's a character limit.

  • Hee,nice to have found you, think I might subscribe.I agree wholeheartedly.I'm a Baxter too,& a lot of our ancestors & cousins around the world were/are writers & artists. Maybe we have hatred of extreme language fuckery in our genes.

For me though, the two I HATE beyond all reason are the following:

1)"I COME up the road yesterday."AAAAAAAAH!!! Tenses, motherfucker!Do you understand them?

2)''Somethink,'anythink.'EEEEK!!!! When did these ing' words aquire a 'k'?
