Ive learned 1 thing from Mauser work at school. Mausers are so hard your hair will go gray.

Mauser's must be a dime a dozen for so many people to be pimping them out like this. It's probably a good project to hone wood/metalworking skills but be sure to appreciate what you have before you permanently change it forever or else you might one day be wishing you had that original Mauser again.

What do you do to remove the barrel and the spring-magazine mecanism from the stock?I mean you just unscrew the two scews or you must have a special tool? And when you unscrew don't you have springs and stuff flying around? And lastly is any trick in the book to know if the barrel is perfectly straight or if it's bend?

So true, same with the Mosin Nagant. They aren't as cheap and plentiful as they once were.

Why do people insist on turning historic military service rifles into custom sporting rifles? I don't know how many springfield m1903's ive seen with cut up stocks and customizing marks all over. I was searching for a commercial Mauser and this heresy came up.

The thing with mausers are there are collectabile and non collectabile. many of the russian capture have had things done to them that have reduced thier value considerably i.e. markings ground off, others like the turkish M1938, mauser 24/47 etc have very little collector value. when considering a mauser for customization/rebarreling, etc. I first look carefully at the model and check to see if it is indeed a collectors model and if so I notify the customer and suggest other options.
