Here's the amazing view from the top of the Dole mountain, the second highest peak in the Jura mountain range (1678 metres or 5505 feet). I start off looking almost due south towards Geneva, the pan anti-clockwise to take in the Mont Blanc in France, Lake Geneva, the Alps, Lausanne, the rest of the Jura as it extends north east and then France to the north west.
The facilities at the top of the mountain which you see are mainly used by Skyguide, the Swiss air traffic control organisation. Planes heading towards Geneva often turn south west over the Jura and decend over Lake Geneva on their landing approach.
The skiing was fantastic and there weren't many people at all. The only problem was the occassional strong winds, which meant the chair lift from Les Dappes to the summit often had to be closed down. When that happens the alternative runs are somewhat limited and the other lifts quickly become overwhelmed with people waiting to use them. In spite of that, a trip is well worth it for the views alone.
Thanks, but not nearly as nice as yours! ;)
