Pushing the Limit!
HAIKU -- The "strongman" and "strongwoman" of a recent competition were given the opportunity to make $5,000 donations to the schools of their choice.
Mat Wetherbee made his gift to Haiku Elementary School, which is in the town where he works and once lived. Kehau Deutsch gave her money to the elementary school she attended, Doris Todd Memorial Christian School in Paia.
The school donations came from the nonprofit Nuestro Futuro that provides educational support to schools. It was formed 10 years ago in New York to offer computer equipment and expertise to children in Bolivia. The foundation since has expanded to provide educational support wherever needed.
The nonprofit founders are part-owners of Upcountry Fitness.
