The anniversary of the neoliberal Bologna-Process is no cause for celebration. But this is exactly what European education ministers are planning for March 11th and 12th in Vienna and Budapest.
We as an international protest movement will be there to oppose their celebrations with a mass demonstration!
It is, however, just as important to see the Bologna-Process in the wider social context of the Lissabon strategy of the EU, which effectively sees education as capital and subordinate to a competitive market. This is a threat to the welfare state and advocates privatization of public property. In the face of these developments, the Ministerial Anniversary Party is a deeply cynical gesture towards students, lecturers and all other working people. Therefore our motto is: United against cutbacks in education and welfare! Student activists of the Austrian unibrennt movement will march together with fellow campaigners from all over Europe as well as members of trade unions and activists from outside the universities to put the protests in a wider context and take them to the next level!
In order to bring those responsible for the deterioration of the European Universities closer to the current situation, and to help them experience the reality of entry restrictions, well be blocking Viennas streets in a de-escalative manner after the demonstration on the 11th March. After 10 years without any kind of participatory process, disregard for democratic decision making and the forcing-through of legislation on the basis of Bologna Reform strategy papers without democratic legitimation, it is for us, unacceptable, that the ministers for education and culture, including their diplomatic entourage and self-proclaimed experts raise their glasses to the current situation at OUR UNIVERSITIES and the Hofburg.
Awesome video!
Just the motto is a bit weak.
