  • You may already be well aware of it, but Tailleferre also wrote a three movement sonata for unaccompanied clarinet. If you can find a recording of it anywhere, give it a listen! It's currently top on my "to buy" list of clarinet music.

  • Hi Mr Tea214, I'm currently learning this Taileferre piece for my ABRSM grade 7. you play this very well, do you know the name or opus number of the Unacc. Clarinet piece you wrote about?

    Many thanks, Peter.

  • Hi Peter, Thanks for the comment.

The piece is titled simply "Sonata for Solo Clarinet" and is in three movements: Allegro Tranquillo, Andantino Expressivo, Allegro Brioso, so hopefully that helps you out. There a a few different recordings of it out there, however I wasn't able to find any online. If you are interested in the sheet music, I just checked June Emerson Music and they have it for £6. Let me know how it goes!

  • OMG, this is fantastically insanely brilliant

  • A wonderful performance, a clarinettist in my music class is playing this piece. My only criticism would be that the note at the top of the main motif, when it occurs, is sometimes somewhat shrill. This is mainly in the first half of the performance, and so it may have just been a slight slip, but it should always be avoided. Aside from that, this is a wonderful performance and is obviously heartfelt. Well done.

  • they took off adante or adagio trust me i'm les six retRD BUT WHERE IS IT

  • now im in love with tailleferre

  • Hi Rob,

thanks for your prompt reply and for details of piece.

    Thanks again, Peter.

  • Agreed.....the others of 'Les Six' are good too....

  • Poulenc's music is certainly good, and because it is so distinctive one can identify him as composer after hearing only a few bars. Maybe the same would apply to the less well-known members of 'Les Six' if their music was played as much.
