The Holy week in Spain is an Easter holliday. It consists of processions of people who march following a religious figure or Jesus Christ or/ and Virgin Mary which are meant to be declarations of faith. These are very emotional parades for the Catholics in Spain and depending on the part of the country you´re in, you can witness the beauty and complexity of the statues and floral arrangements (natural flowers are used for this), as well as the Fanfare music that always accomanies them. These events are organized by religious groups called "Cofradia" formed by secondary groups named "Hermandad" (Brotherhood), each having their characteristic march steps, costumes and ensigns. The march usually is formed by several typical figures as the "penitents", wearing a full costume with conic hood that hide their faces, or the "Nazarene" , "Mantillas", who are women dresses in black morning costumes and the general public. Each day and its parade has a theme, like Death, Resurection etc, represented by the statues. The ones I filmed are not all of them, as this year was very rainy and some of them couldn´t get out on the streets, but you can see some of them, as Jesus the Narene, The Virgin Mary of Hope (Virgen Maria de la Esperanza), The Virgin Mary of Pain (Virgen Maria de los Dolores). Nerja is a small town, usually in bigger cities like Seville, Malaga or Granada everything is a lot more stately and solems. I hope you enjoy it either way. :)
