Me and Tom Chapin in NY at WCBS studios for Hungerthon, which is a fundraising event for Why Hunger, which was founded by Harry Chapin and Harry's friend Bill Ayres. Why Hunger has a four star rating from Charity Navigator. 89% of the donations go directly to those who are hungry. 1 in 3 Americans now is below or at the poverty line.
I was lucky enough to spend some time with Tom in the studio on November 22nd. It gets pretty funny when both of us are trying to sing the last part of the bridge that normally Big John Wallace does. After seeing the video, I realized that Tom wanted to skip it. I wish I had known, i would have been happy to skip that tough part.
About half way through the song, my Uncle (Wayne Cabot) brought us on the air, and we sang the rest of taxi on live radio
Far Out
Song is written by Harry Chapin
Related to Harry? HC got flack for this song b/c he never actually drove a cab, but I think it's a nice song.
Incidentally, there was very fine avant garde jazz saxophonist/composer named Thomas Chapin who died too young (1957-1999) of leukemia; he was not related to Harry Chapin.
