Legendary twin engined gas dragster the Freight Train fires up in the pits. While it doesn't have the cackle of the nitro cars, the "whomp" of 16 cylinders of small block chevy and the cloud of blackie carbon is pretty awesome...not to mention the engineering feat of linking and synching two V8s is a neat deal. One of the few gas dragsters that made top fuelers nervous when running for Top Eliminator.

  • Sad that Top Gas was eliminated by NHRA. What with the cost of fuel racing, this might be a way for more small teams to compete.

  • @Ruckweiler73 I agree in theory, but I think top gas has been dead for so long that I don't know who could build the gas equivilent of a blown nitro engine. Even alky dragsters and funny cars cost so much and get so little attention that I don't see how a Top Gas class could ever be supported. They don't even have that in nostalgia racing. Unfortunately, the drag racing of the 60's and 70's just isn't going to come back - as much as I wish it would.

  • There are a few little differences in the restored version- the Moroso stamped valve covers on this one weren't around in the 60's either, but all in all, they captured what the car was all about in its heyday. I just wish there was a venue for cars like this- or exact reproductions to make even 1/8 mile exhibition runs. The "nostalgia" stuff just doesn't scratch the same itch.

  • My great uncle drove this car :) Floyd Lippencotte, Jr aka Bob Muravez

  • Very cool! I know he was driving the Western Hoist car up until a couple of years ago. I hope to see him in the driver's seat again sometime.
