On my way to the Thirlmere rail festival I was lucky enough to film 44211 & 3642 heading into central station for its first load of passengers. It was a pity 44211 was the lead but still good all the same.

  • In the days of steam water towers were placed along the tracks at most major stations an engine would use it to refill if needed, these days in order for the engine to run long distances all day she brings her own water along ..... that wagon in this video is full with 10,000 litres of water.

If you want to see a water tower working go to my steam locomotive class playlist - and watch Zig Zag Railway part 1 and see one used.

I hope this explains it for you.

  • what was that last wagon near the steam engine?

  • Yes that's right mate !

  • Macarthur Station only use to have 2 platforms.
