On the SEPTA Rt 11 trolley line in Darby, PA is perhaps the last trolley-Railroad grade crossing left in the country. The standard railroad diamonds were recently replaced by new fangled "flange bearing" Here a SEPTA K-car traverses the new "diamonds" which are already showing damage to the railhead due to the frequent movements.

  • not the only one in the country, but indeeed rare. another exists on the TECO trolley in Tampa (at least).

  • The TECO crossing is not part of a road grade crossing.

  • cool

  • Does anyone remember when they had watchmen at that crossing? Everytime a trolley came to the crossing the watchman had to pull a big lever. Failure to do so the trolley track defaulted to a derail.
