Blimey $4000 is a lot of money for the hire of a boat and a decent skipper. I'd guess by avoiding all the fancy swimming association fee's and red tape you could do it for much less.

You weren't shown making ground in France. Did you just not show this in the video as I thought it was part of the official swim (although I might be wrong). It looked like you ended by boarding the vessel.

Absolutely in awe of this swim. I am a keen swimmer and the furthest I have swum is 5km, to do this takes such determination and not just physical strength but mental strength. I can't think of any other sports which require this amount of continuous exercise, except for a triathlon. A triathlon is split between three disciplines, so there isn't that sense of repetition that comes with a 10 hour+ swim. Hat off to you! Which organisation did you swim for?

im thinking of doing this too, i would appriciate any info on what it was like for you from a swimmers point of view...how long did it take etc. thanks (:

it's closer to 16°C, precisely 15.5555... °C

Congratulations on your great feat! One question: did you suffer any injury or have cramps during the swim? That would be very bad wouldn't it? Or if your goggles leaked, etc...?
Seth-
I've done one swim with CSA and one with CSPF.

The big boat can't come all the way in near the cap. The dinghy came in with me, but the crew was on that, not my support with the camera. The observer was on board, too.
Chandler-
Unfortunately, the coast guards won't let anyone else do this. Remember, it's two sets of coastal zones and national coast guards and two international shipping lanes.

To be hondest, my first swim was paid for mostly by fellow swimmers who wanted to suppport someone doing this, and my second was paid for by the organization I was fundraising for. It's a big event that media is attracted to- you might get lucky and get a sponsor

That's so cool. I'd like to try this. Does anyone know how much it typically costs?

Well, depends on where you're coming from. Add in your travel costs, at least a week of hotel waiting for your window to open, and at least $400-$500 in association fees. The big cost is the around $4000 for the boat, no matter what group you go with.
