Six months to the day that the Pakistani people voted out pro-Musharraf political parties in the elections, President Musharraf has bid farewell to the seat of power he has occupied for nine long years.
So what's next? Foremost in people's mind is what happens to Musharraf now -- will he be tried in a court, or given safe passage out of the country? Future exile locations including Saudi Arabia and Turkey have already come under discussion in various media reports.
Next comes the crucial question -- who will be the next President? Names of various contenders have already been floated around, including PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari, even though his past is tainted with allegations of corruption. Then there is the problem of the judiciary - with President Musharraf out of the way, will the government restore the deposed judges sacked by Musharraf last year? And last, but not the least - will the government now be able to focus on more pressing issues at hand, such as inflation, and the deteriorating security situation in the tribal regions.
But for now, the country should take a sigh of relief - for the man that clung on to power with an iron grip and an utter disregard for the constitution, is finally moving out of his residence, with a very tarnished reputation in hand.

  • After 9 years of that clown Musharraf, it will take time to undue all the disasters brought about by Musharraf- especially the terrorism and instability he brought. But even now Pakistan is doing better under a clown like Zardari. That tells you how bad the bigger clown Musharraf was!

  • The way all 4 provincial assemblies agreed for president's impeachment leading to his banishment is a visible sign for Zardari's Anti Pakistan/Anti Islamic group to realize the value of their hypocrisy. Musharraf was condemned due to this attitude & Zardari represents the same school of thought. How can the politicians who already exiled a Hypocrite like Musharraf will accept another or rather bigger Hypocrite Zardari. It's the People's Party's biggest miconception and needs to be corrected.
