This song was actually my English project on the book The House of the Spirits. The song is Chilean Revolutionary music sung about a bloodthirsty dictator. The parable of the fox and the hen is that the fox can kill the individual hen, but when the hen join together, they overpower the fox (which is the dictator). I wrote the lyrics and played the instruments while Kaitlyn Larsen sang:
I plow your fields and sow your seeds
And in return you provide for my needs
But in this process your colors will show
As you come and go
Once you arrive your temper flares
Not an infant can escape your hateful glares
Your "loyal" subjects are ruled by fear
But the time of change is slowly drawing near.
You make widows of women and bastards of sons
And run Tres Marias with threats and with guns
But just as the sun will rise again
We will live by the story of the fox and the hen
You run this land with an iron fist
But on the road there was a turn you missed
With the value of family and the honor of truth
You abuse our women and enslave our youth
But your ignorance is bliss and your power is blinding
While right under your nose we bond through our binding
But the clock has struck midnight and the hour has come
To rid our country of the oppressive scum
You have strength in name, we have strength in numbers
And this sleeping giant has been woken from his slumber
But just as your throne will never claim the win
We will live by the story of the fox and the hen.
The name of our country will forever be known
By the martyrs you've killed and the cocktails we've thrown
But the fox is defeated and locked in his den
Until the next song is sung of his war with the hen.
Hey man, great job with this song! I always love a good protest song; very bob dylan/silvio rodriguez -esque. I love the guitar and percussion parts, and this Kaitlyn Larson has a fantastic voice. Props.
