From downstairs I could hear my younger almost-brothers argue. Sigh. Probably about something that was completely unnecessary to fight about. I rolled out of bed since it was impossible to try and sleep when they were screaming at each other downstairs. After a cold, refreshing shower I pulled a white t-shirt over my head and caught a quick glance in the mirror.
"Nick are you in there?" It was Nicole, my twin sister. We were adopted together, and thank God for that. Even though she was loud and annoying at times, often had mood swings and almost always took out her bad mood on me, I loved her. Without her I wouldn't have anyone my age to talk to.
Nicole, on the other hand, didn't seem to feel the same way about me. She wouldn't hang out with me even if she'd get money for it.
"Nick!" A loud slamming on the door made me lose my temper.
"What do you want Nicole?" I shook my hair and ran my hands through the damp curls.
"I want you to get out of the bathroom. I left my hairbrush in there and I need it now, so open the freaking door!"
I sighed and went over to the door, opened it and walked out. My sister shot an evil glare at me when I passed her by. "Seems like someone woke up on the wrong side this morning..." I muttered, my bad mood becoming even worse. She really had a way of making the best day feel like the worst sometimes.
When I got down in the kitchen I was greeted by smiles. "Nick!"
Seemed like the two had stopped fighting for a while. They were sitting at the table eating corn pops with milk.
"Good morning," I said, nodding at my adoptive mother, standing at the counter with a glass of water in her hand.
I really liked my family. I had everything I needed, and didn't really have anything to complain about. I had two little brothers, a sister, and mother who cared about me, and then there was Nicole. There were always people around me,but I still felt lonely. As if there was a piece of me that was missing.
The youngest brothers' names were Justin and Michel. Twins, just like me and Nicole. They were born on the second of July, seven years ago. Then there was Kate, thirteen years old. And of course me and my twin sister Nicole, we had joined the family at the age of twelve, and had been a part of it for about five years now.
I sat down on one of the chairs, but suddenly rose to my feet again. From the window I had spotted her again, and this time I would talk to her.
"I'm going outside for a bit," I announced, and stuffed my phone in the pocket of my jeans before heading out the door.
"But Nick-" I heard my name being called after me from inside, but the door closed behind me, and I pretended like I hadn't heard her. I didn't have time. I had to talk to the girl.
I watched her from a distance. She was standing on the edge, the long, brown hair moving with the wind. She didn't move, like a statue she was standing there, her head lifted slightly.
For a moment, it seemed like she was about to take a step out into the air. I heaved for a breath, shaking my head. That couldn't possibly be.
Was she really about to jump?
Not sure what to do, or even say, I moved closer to where she was standing. I didn't even know her name, but I had to get her attention somehow.
