Those modems are bad about power backfeed. Something internally goes wrong and power backfeed gets back out around the f-connector at the back of the modem causing EMI and packet loss killing the SNR, thats why your modem wont sync more than likely. Those modems suck, get a new one and make sure your signal power is good coming in.
Hah I have the same modem (through Time Warner,not Cox),its that Cisco 2100.I just had the same problem with it not being able to connect to the net as well,just by the looks of the way its built,there is something about it that just screams "CHEAPLY MADE".The bastards at TW Cable didnt even have the decency to give me the Users Manual.
haha call yourself for support, no but really if u have a splitter on the line on that thing its gonna be shoddy as hell. just go straight from the wall output for your cable and into your modem, bypass the tv and all. the tv your gonna have to find another cable output or you can split a line to the tv and that'll be fine.
