A glimpse at the stars of the day going to the most popular hotspots of the day: The Brown Derby and the Cocoanut Grove nightclub located within the now demolished Ambassador Hotel.

I don't own the music or photos.

  • 1:30 love Joan Crawford and Franchot Tone. Man he was handsome. Who is sitting with them?

  • @Tsarevna303 I'm not sure, I couldn't find a name/

  • Great stuff! The music is the Larry Clinton Orch with Bea Wain singing. I loved the shot of Kay Francis and Walter Brennan! In the shot of Spencer and Mrs.(?) Tracy...he is shaking hands with bandleader Abe Lyman, right? And who is the other man at the table?

  • @teebeesea THanks for your comment, yes that is Abe Lyman shaking hands with Tracy and the other man in the picture is unidentified.

  • Great pictures :D Thank you for sharing!

  • I love this, I wish Hollywood still had such sophistication in 2009 as it did 70 years ago!

  • Seventy years ago! The music is perfect for this vid of nostalgic Hollywood in its greatest year, 1939...and still in its innocence just before the massive disruption of World War II. This was the generation who established film in the world's imagination. The Gable Lombard photo is particularly touching since she died in a terrible plane crash on a war bonds drive during the war....Gable was never the same again. Needs more pics though....
