Comment , Like and Subscribe Yo!!! This is a review of the Canon 16-35mm f2.8 zoom lens. The camera used is the Canon 5D Mark II. The microphone is the Rode Video Mic. I also used Genus ND Fader filers. No color grading was used in these clips. Camera was set to Standard Picture Style (not dialed down).

@whole27 - We are not dealing "videography" with a DSLR. It's cinematography. Each different lens has it's own angle and minimum focusing distances, depth of field, length of zoom etc. NONE of them auto focus. You really have to look through different lenses to see the difference. Example: Looking through a 50mm is like looking through a hole the size of a dime. A 16mm is like the size of a 50 cent piece. Things will look very different. The f# is about how much light get's let in.

@DemiTheCameraMan ok but could you explain how different lenses vary in terms of what they can do? I'm trying to understand why 1 lens can't do all those things i mentioned that r the universal thing to be important for video...HD image quality, AF, and image stab?
Let's take the 3 lenses u mentioned that you use as an example...what does ur 35mm do that your 50mm cannot do? What does your 50mm that your 70-200mm cannot do? etc etc

@whole27 - If you could only afford one lens I would buy the best version of the 50mm that you could afford. TO ME that is the filmmakers lens. Play with it and understand it and THEN add something complimentary to it. I use my 50mm f1.4 a lot with my 70-200mm f2.8 or my 16-35mm f2.8. I recently sold my 15mm fisheye to buy a new 100mm Macro lens. I will be posting a new clip about soon...

@DemiTheCameraMan got it, thanks! Ok so if i want to make top quality movies but can only afford 1 lens, maybe 2 at most....which lens would you recommend? Would the 16-35mm 2.4f suffice?
I only care about taking VIDEO so the main things that are important for video is the best HD image quality, AF, and image stab, right...so what lens would be best for video? I'm also just leanring about the zoom and prime lenses....zoom(more options) is better for video right?

@whole27 - It's a good idea to put a UV filter on ALL your lenses. The only "real" purpose is to protect the lens. If your actual lens gets scratched you're done. BUT, if you buy a $2000.00 lens you probably wouldn't want to put a $16.00 piece of glass in front of it. I use good quality UV filters which cost between $50-$100. Filters have other purposes too like ND, polarizers, warming etc. Thanks for watching.

@LimaCinema - I would NOT buy the 14mm. If you want to make films you need versatile equipment. The 16-35mm would be a better choice IMO. Thanks for watching.

@DemiTheCameraMan i have yet to buy a dslr but will probably get a 5d mark 3 eventually....but money is scarce for me....these lenses cost way too much....so now you are telling me you gotta buy a filter seperately on top of paying 2 fucking grand for this lens?????????? how much is the filter and what do you use it for?

Hello Demi, Im into filmmaking more than photography, I currently own a prime 50mm1.2L and I need wide shots, would you get the 14mm 2.8 L II also prime or would you get this one? I know primes have better quality but having the zoom option makes me want to get this one as well, besides I don't know how practical a 14mm combined with a 50mm can be. Thanks and great job!

@bandersaleh - You "might" lose some of the edge distortion. You'd have to try it to see.
