Pine Mushroom Check In

Some video of my trip up to the harper to check out the area before the picking season begins, and where I go each year to pick pine mushrooms (matsutake). Pine mushrooms are editable mushrooms that are harvested during the fall season. They are sold to buying stations that have been setup along the road ways, and townships so that pickers can sell the mushrooms they find. Generally the mushrooms are then shipped off to contries like japan and china where pine mushrooms are aparently a popular food item.

As a mushroom picker for 33 years. I have learned not to advertise where I pick. Telling the world exactly where you pick is not a good idea, unless you plan on making less and less each year.

The "harper" is a big place, and with the prices being as low as they are these last few years not as many people are willing to make the trip like they used to. I also get the feeling me and the family will not be making the trip for much longer.
