There's no such thing as a rip-off, unless the concept as a whole followed steadily to the original concept's whole, including story, character, action/event, etc. What you have are artists paying homage to other artists. In this case, a Japanese artist paying homage to American works, as the likes of Walt Disney, and then building his own story, and his own characters. In reality, the Japanese-Hero storytelling usually contains more depth, and a variety you rarely see in American comics.

American comics primarily focus attention in on one character in his/her own light, and rarely stray from this character's path. With the Japanese, a certain more emphasizing is placed, and you have a spotlight covering more characters, back-stories, plot-shifts, and intricate and interwoven elements.

@Shiirow superman rip off? how in what way? cuz goku is so strong? wow that makes it a rip off yup :D and cuz he can fly yup..... now every strong flying superhero is ripped off of superman cuz goku can shoot lazers out his eyes right? and he gets his powers from the sun right? and cuz hes from a different world where if he was there he would be normal but since hes on earth he has powers right? cuz thats gokus story?
