Newfoundland Meets a Bigger Dog

Harry, our 200-pound brown Newfoundland, along with his side-kick, Kona (our Tri-Color Collie) are guarding our yard from an attack from a 1,000-pound dog in Anchorage, Alaska!

And you're from Newfoundland! Wow, that's great!

Yeah, we have a lot of moose/car collisions, too, in Anchorage.

I imagine there are many similarities between Newfoundland and Alaska... we both have wolves, big furry bears of various colors and size, moose, caribou, fox, coyote, and kinds of small mammals, and probably some similar birds, too.

Yeah, moose can be very stubborn. They keep thinking that this was their place to live before the people and dogs came!

Moose take a certain toll on pets in Anchorage... you have to watch your dog off lead in most areas that are 'natural' at all.

We've run into moose on hikes, even around town, all the time. Mostly they just watch you... but when their ears go down and the fur on their neck goes up... beware!

And I think the moose in Alaska weight more than 1,000 pounds, don't they?...I think our moose in New Hampshire can get that big...That's a healthy looking moose!!

My brother used to live in Anchorage and was the Home School Coordinator...He's moved to Bristol Bay now, though, and is a school principal there...

@dougbrown47 Actually there are no wolves on the island. We have bears, but usually only brown ones. Usually. Sometimes polar bears come across from Labrador. No caribou here either. We do have coyote though, and PLENTY of moose! And they're not even native!
