I think Peter Cook and Keith Moon have a lot in common. Both effortlessly talented at what they do, both driven to an early death through drink, and similar senses of humour. Just my thoughts anyway. Both eccentric Englishmen that add to the rich cultural tapestry of this little island off the coast of Europe.

@StinkyKnobcheese Erasing material to reuse the film was common practice... it's unforgiveable in a sense, but it was part of the routine back then. I still hope that there are private collectors who taped the lost shows off of the television. Hopefully they're out there. He's a genius.

Yea I used to think Old Spiece was the height of sophistication as well...
Love that cheeky grin Mr. Cook has when he says his ambition is to shut Parky up.

@williamwilson666 I think most of the pieces are available in 'Tragically, I Was An Only Twin.' If you do pick up a copy, make sure to intone it in a sort of nasally E.L. Wisty voice, otherwise it doesn't really get off the page.

Goodness- Peter Cook wrote for the daily mail? That is staggering in the modern climate. Imagine a comic genius of this order sharing column space with Mad Mel Phillips and James DellinCock.

Pete was voted funniest man of all time in 2006 with John Cleese coming in second.
I am still in shock that the BBC deleted most of his stuff.
