@seeinstripes In the sub 40 degree water, smaller eels outfish the big ones. Using other fish baits results in too many small fish hook-ups, and run-offs. Trophy fish without a doubt key on eels over other finned fish baits. The low water temps make digesting larger baits very taxing. It's really quite remarkable how you won't get even a touch if the eels are too big. (WAS kind of one of our little secrets) Some guys bought giant eels from a farm and learned the hard way!-Thanks!

@dlwn64 When drifting or very slow strolling with live bait, a flexible soft tip is a must so the fish can pick up the bait, and turn it down the gullet without FEELING resistance from the rod. By the time a fish feels the rod, the rod is fully bent and loaded to automatically set the hook. More hits are missed due to super stiff graphite rods. Graphite is OK if you are holding the rod at strike, but not in a rod holder. These are soft, but have stronge backbone for fighting fish.

In the video it mentions the fact that the rod bends but stays stiff is extremely important for live bait. Why is that?
That was SIGNIFICANT. That's the most consistent big fish action I've ever seen. I'd be using MUCH bigger bait. Those eels are just a light snack for those fish. Try a 20" shad or herring on those boards and see what happens. Not trying to tell you guys how to fish, just sayin!

@seeinstripes I don't keep many big fish , if any, but the few I have kept were full of small eels and sand eels, but NO MENHADEN, even though the bay was full of them? Springtime, we find the opposite, even found flounder and baby sharks in the belly.
