I wish he had talked about 'hubs" and how they can influence and even control networks.

in case with livejournal the problem is that it's now owned by russians and targeted primarily at russia/cis. that's why it is not interconnected with the rest of the internet -- it's just different segmentation.

Philosophically I find this fancinating, particularly the basics of 'networking' or 'classifying' things. To me, the connectedness of these complex networks is insane! It gives me a headache. 'Web of Life', don't get it confused with the 'Web of lies'.

One of the best philosophical ideas of the last 2500 years. Trees (classifications, hierarchies, Aristotelian philosophy) vs Rhizome / Grass (networks).

This is a huge topic that we discuss with my students during philosophy classes. We always tend to find a proper tree and climb to the top (metaphorically), but evolution (and evolution of our knowledge) goes in the opposite direction :) 'The grass' (networks) concept make things far more complicated and interesting.

    Use both. They're both awesome.

RSA, TED, Khanacademy, ViHart, PatrickJMT, Investopedia, CrashCourse, Wolframalpha, SciShow, codeacademy....

Just some of the educational resources available completely for free on the Internet.

Hell, while you're at it, go ahead and copypaste this comment if you like. It's useful information for everyone (better than copy-pasting stick figure memes), and I don't care if I'm noted as the original source or not.
