@Emillll Ontario has had trouble for years trying to get any media or attention to it's area for 'higher level of play tournaments'. Calgary just happened to get its shit together and made something happen. Btw; Daigo using Ibuki and Mago using Sakura = win XD.
Regarding the Canada Cup...I don't think Calgary was the best place to host it. There is a higher concentration of "good" Canadian players in Ontario (more specifically, the Toronto area). Not sure how many Toronto players flew over to Calgary but many were saying that Calgary is sort of in the middle of nowhere and does not have as many good players.
Right now, it looks like JSMaster is Canada's big player but still has ways to go.
@Emillll Well, the game is actually growing in popularity for north america from what I've personnaly seen/heard, but the gap will at the very least take a long time to tighten closer together that's for sure. Honestly, going by your profile I really do hope Canadacup is just the beginning of more 'major tournaments', because I do know for a fact that the Canadian fanbase is growing, if slowly, and I would love to see our homeland be able to support it more.
Yeah the gap is closer for the reasons you said. I don't think the Blazblue gap is giong to get smaller, considering the game is being played less and less in the US, while it's still played quite a lot in Japan. I'm not even sure the US will be given a qualifier spot in SBO for Blazblue next year.
@Emillll My bad, I mean I was at Canadacup most recently and I've only seen Daigo Umehara place 4th at NorCal, and likewise at various tournaments as of late. I shook hands with Mago, dranks some beers and played some games with top level jap players, Tokido is pretty cool, but I wouldn't know a thing tbh.
Maybe its the alcohol, but please do take note of credit where it is due, yes the japs overall are still better, but the POINT was the skill gap is a lot closer in SF than BB.
In what way can the americans compete against the Japs in SF? the US's top players aren't even on the level of Japan's midlevel ST players, and the same goes for SF3 3S. the US's level in SF4 is improving but they still can't compete with the best players like Momochi, Daigo, Mago, Tokido, etc.
@ShindyK2 You think I don't acknowledge that they're better 90% of the time? They are. I'm just smart enough to realize that it's due to cultural differences and not racial ones.

@Shockna I agree with you, why do you think americans can compete more or less with the japs in SF? Because of the larger community.

@ShindyK2 If you honestly think that Japanese people are better gamers by genetics, please do. Also, never have children. ⌐_⌐
